Trailer and Teaser Trailer Comparisons

The teaser trailer of ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ is one that is longer than many others for it runs for one minute and thirty-six seconds, however it still carries the contents of a teaser trailer by telling the audience more about the fact that the film is coming out in the near future, than giving away the plot and content of the film, adding to the excitement of the film’s release. However usually teaser trailers are shorter but recently have been increasingly made longer to get the audience more engaged, therefore resulting in more of a gross at the box office.

This teaser trailer includes a montage of footage cut together fast and steadily having the cuts in time with the beat of the non-diegetic music playing over the action. The non-diegetic music is a famous piece by ‘Led Zeppelin’ with ‘immigrant song’, being beaty and fast paced fitting with the teaser trailer. However compared to other teaser trailers and trailers in general, there is no dialogue included to give away any of the real plot it only shows you the action, and during the action it singles out one images which is repeated throughout the trailer, which is the white house down a dirt road giving this establishment more significance to the rest, giving it more power and making the audience intrigued as to what is inside and the mystery behind it.

The trailer for ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ is slower in editing and motion. Immediately you notice there is dialogue involved, giving us more information about the storyline very early on in the trailer. The non-diegetic music placed over the top as well is a piece which portrays mystery and action. The beat of the music is quite steady throughout and it ends on simple notes at the end to give a powerful finish.

It is related with the genres of action and mystery. It reels in its audience from the action packed footage and brings in an audience which skews towards a male audience; however is still very much a film for the women as well involving a woman as one of the main characters and having a hunky man as eye candy.

It’s unique selling point would also be the main male character being Daniel Craig, and seeing he is well known for his part as the newest ‘James Bond’ he himself will bring in a wide range of an audience from people being of young teenagers upwards to the older generation.
